Avalon slot game is a title which runs on the Microgaming slots platform. The game is named after the legendary island of Arthurian lore where, according to Geoffrey Monmouth’s Historia Regum Britanniae, King Arthur’s sword Excalibur was forged. It is also where the mystical king sought sanctuary to recover from his wounds following the Battle of Camlann.
Avalon Slot Background
Avalon is Microgaming’s longest-running and most successful video slot titles. Launched in 2006, the game became an instant hit with players and is still widely played to this day. To keep up with the demand, Avalon mobile was released in 2010 which was followed three years later by the multi-player version. The game is based on the semi-fictional account of King Arthur who, if historical texts are to be believed, defended Britain from Saxon incursions in the 5th and 6th centuries. While most of the accounts consist of folklore and a generous helping of medieval artistic license, tales of Arthur and his knights remain popular and feature in countless films, television products and books.
First impressions of the Avalon online slot reveal a simple game interface, populated by clean and crisp imagery which nods to medieval days of yore. So it’s entirely reasonably for you to expect treasure chests, drinking goblets, stone keeps and of course the Lady of the Lake. The graphics, although fairly basic, are well designed and hold up well against the kind of artwork found in more contemporary video slots. This is no mean feat considering that Avalon is more than ten years old now.
The game itself is a five-reel, three-row game with 20 pay-lines and a variable multiplier. Once it’s loaded, select your stake for each pay-line. Alternatively, you can opt for auto-play which allows you to choose from five to ten games with a predetermined stake. The Avalon pay table is as follows:
- Crown – 800 credits for 5 symbols, 100 for 4, 20 for 3, 5 for 2
- Coat of Arms – 600 credits for 5 symbols, 75 credits for 4, 20 credits for 3
- Broach – 500 credits for 5 symbols, 50 for 4, 10 for3
- Drinking Goblet – 400 credits for 5 symbols, 50 for 4, 10 for 3
- ‘A’ – 150 credits for 5 symbols, 20 for 4, 5 for 3
- ‘K’ – 100 credits for 5 symbols, 20 for 4, 5 for 3
- ‘Q’ – 75 credits for 5 symbols, 20 for 4, 5 for 3
- ‘J’ – 50 credits for 5 symbols, 10 for 4, 5 for 3
- ‘10’ – 50 credits for 5 symbols, 10 for 4, 5 for 3
All of the above symbols are paid if they appear in succession from left to right, with the scatter option the only exception. The scatter symbol for Avalon is the Lady of the Lake. A minimum of two need to appear on the reels in order for you to receive a scatter pay-out, which is then multiplied by your initial bet. Should she land on reels three, four or five, you’ll be awarded scatter payments as well as free spins.
The Avalon wild is represented by the treasure chest image and substitutes all icons apart from the scatter symbol as well as awarding its own pay-outs. It also acts as a wild during the afore-mentioned Avalon free spins feature.
